Jetpack the one of the most popular WordPress plugin has released a new version, jetpack 2.8. This new release comes with some cool features. The one I like most is the Monitor service. Previously I was using Pingdom monitor service. They sent me mail, when my site is down. Now the monitor service is more improved. Multiple users can get mail now. There are something new features in this version of Jetpack 2.8. Markdown feature will also make a lot of blogger happy.
Whats New in Jetpack 2.8
- Improved Jetpack Monitor notifications
- Write more efficiently with Markdown
- Publicize Support for Custom Post Types
How to Use the Monitor Notifications Service:
You don’t need to worry now. Because someone is looking your site for you.
Jetpack Monitor will keep tabs on your site, and alert you the moment that downtime is detected. Once activated, one of our servers will start checking your site every five minutes. If it looks like something’s gone awry, we’ll fire off an email notification to the WordPress.com account that Jetpack is connected under.
Just navigate to the Jetpack page, find the Monitor module card, and click on Configure. Then, check the “Receive Monitor Email Notifications” setting and save your changes. Now if your site ever goes down you will receive notifications to your WordPress.com linked account email! See here for more information: Monitor
Markdown is a quick way to add formatted text without writing out any HTML. Markdown lets you compose links, lists, and other styles using regular characters and punctuation marks. If you want a quick, easy way to write and edit rich text without having to take your hands off the keyboard or learn a lot of complicated codes and shortcuts, then Markdown might be right for you. We do strongly suggest sticking with the “Text” tab in the Editor when using Markdown.
How to Enable Markdown:
To enable Markdown for comments, go to Settings → Discussion in your dashboard, and check the box labeled Use Markdown for comments. Click on Save Changes at the bottom of the page to apply. Visitors to your blog will now be able to compose comments using Markdown. When writing Markdown, make sure to use the Text Editor for the best results. Using the Visual editor may cause unexpected results with Markdown.
Why it is good?
Well, when we write in Visual editor, it looks good. but when in click on the text version, everything looks a little bit messy. Specially for non-geek type person. for them its a cool features.
